SAN DIEGO, CA October 30, 2011  CNN Hero Doc Hendley was guest of honor at the October 15 fundraiser, An Evening To Benefit Wine to Water. Hosted by Brava Creative, the event drew a crowd of over 400 people and raised $6,000 for Hendley’s nonprofit organization.

Every year, more than 2 million people die from diseases associated with lack of access to clean water and inadequate sanitation. Wine to Water provides clean water systems to the needy in developing countries around the world.

Proceeds from the San Diego event will fund projects in Ethiopia – one of the drought-stricken regions in the Horn of Africa. Relief efforts by Wine to Water include drilling deep borehole wells to provide a permanent source of clean water for approximately 500 people.

“I wanted to increase awareness of Wine to Water here in San Diego and inspire evangelists for the cause,” said Lisa Strickland, founder and creative director at Brava Creative. “Having Doc at the event helped tremendously. People were touched by his sincerity, thrilled to meet him and motivated to get involved.”
